Open Letter to Pastors Samuel King Kabu and Peter Rombeek
Dear Samuel and Peter,
Over the days I have spent in the hospital, I have come to realize that I have been performing a very valuable and necessary service. To some, it may be labeled “Peer Mentoring” — but to me, it is much more than that. It is a beautiful and life-giving blend of components: friendship, life coaching, and ministry. As I reflect on this work, I see it as a calling — a way in which God is using me to touch the lives of others in a deeply personal and transformative way.
I must admit that I have always bristled when people speak of God’s “army” of 2.5 billion or whatever number of believers around the world, called to act as His hands and feet. The term “army” conjures up images of war and battle, and though I understand the notion of spiritual warfare, I’ve often felt uneasy about the language. It feels to me that such a description can lead to a mindset of conflict rather than healing. However, as I reflected on this, I thought: A peaceful, healing army, one that brings restoration rather than destruction — now, that is something I could really get behind!
This morning, as part of my daily routine, I had what amounted to a couple of sessions with a very troubled lady. God guided me through those moments, and together, we uncovered some powerful personal insights that she was able to embrace. It was a beautiful picture of how healing and growth can occur simply through listening, being present, and allowing God to speak into a person’s life through us.
The government may claim they don’t have the resources to pay for services like this, but in my heart, I believe that this kind of ministry is something every one of us would be more than happy to provide — freely and willingly. I envision offering 3 to 5 hours a week, simply to listen, to befriend, and to guide people using God’s wisdom and grace.
Christy, I’m going to ask you first to come and perform this service, offering your presence and your listening ear. After that, I would love for Joe Tavares to step in, following a similar path of listening, befriending, and offering God’s guidance. Together, we will be a lifeline to those in need of healing and direction.
Samuel and Peter, I’m reaching out to you both to help me take this concept further, to help me bring this healing service to the churches and the ‘army of God.’ Imagine if the believers worldwide could come together in this peaceful and healing capacity, offering simple yet profound acts of kindness, listening, and ministry. What an incredible impact we could have on the world.
I believe that through this initiative, we can offer a profound healing presence in our communities, touching lives and transforming hearts. Thank you for considering this vision and for your continued leadership and prayers. I look forward to the possibility of working together to make this vision a reality.
All my love,
Ross
